Pay Equity Now!
8 March 2003

As part of the Global unions’ Women’s Campaign, "Pay Equity Now" has been identified as the theme of the campaign for 8 March 2003.

Facts

  • Worldwide, women are paid less (between 10-50%) than men for doing similar work, or different jobs of comparable worth;
  • Yet equal pay is a fundamental right, recognised in many international instruments, including the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work (1998).

What you can do

  • Form a campaign team to carry out your actions and lobbying activities. Think of a variety of actions such as:
  • Call on your national centre and /or union to put Pay Equity high on the collective bargaining agenda;
  • Urge employers to undertake gender audits at the workplace;
  • Request your government to ratify and/or rein-force the Equal Remuneration Convention 100;
  • Request your government to provide annual statistics
