World Bank Links

The address of the World Bank web site is: http://www.worldbank.org/. The English version of the web site is the most comprehensive, but Spanish, French, Portuguese, Japanese and Russian versions are also available through this address. The main web page also provides access to the pages of the World Bank’s principal components -- the IBRD, the IDA and the IFC.

The World Bank web site features subordinate web sites of interest to affiliates in many of UNI’s major sectors. These include:

Electricity

http://www.ifc.org/power/
http://www.ifc.org/infrastructure/utilities/index.html

Finance

IBITS

Postal

Telecom & Media

There are numerous subordinate web sites within the World Bank’s main web site that are of general interest. Two of these may be especially important to UNI affiliates representing workers in the public sector.

The Public Sector web site (http://www1.worldbank.org/publicsector/) deals with public enterprise reform, civil service reform and government decentralization projects while the web site of the Private Sector Development Department (http://www.worldbank.org/html/extdr/topic-psd.htm) deals with privatization projects that often involve UNI affiliates.

Finally, the World Bank’s Social Protection and Labor web site (http://wbln0018.worldbank.org/HDNet/HD.nsf/SectorPages/SP?Opendocument) addresses the issues of labor markets, social legislation and the World Bank’s collaboration with the ILO and other UN agencies.
