About
the campaign
Today about 200 of UNI’s affiliated unions are still offline! Much of UNI Online's work is
concentrated in Africa where only half of affiliates are online. But also
in the other regions many affiliates are still offline.
UNI Online is a contribution to bridging the digital divide and about
connecting unions to the Internet and e-mail and turning UNI into a global
online organisation with as many affiliates as possible being
connected. That’s the ambitious target set to implement the decision of UNI’s
first World Congress, held in Berlin in September 2001.
The Internet and e-mail are powerful tools for global union work, sharing
information, international solidarity and crucial in developing online
networking between UNI affiliates. The success of UNI's Strategic
Objective No. 6 depends on affiliates’
commitment towards the aims and requirements of the objectives.

strategies
The strategic approach of UNI Online and its
implementation is based on previous experience from donation of IT
equipment, Internet connections and software training courses. This
experience serves as a base for the continued work that will be made
possible through financial assistance, donations of equipment and IT
skills’ training. Unions’ connectivity is analysed on a regular basis
to identify unions not yet connected to the virtual union network. These
unions may need assistance in securing telecommunication resources,
computer equipment, installation costs and/or with IT training.
UNI
Online is expanding and now comprises support projects, such as software
development, with UNIconnect, the membership database programme; simple
web presence, with UNI
Bridge; IT skills’ training with e-learning and new project ideas,
such as advanced web presence, including web applications and advice for
e-unions. Getting Online lays the foundation to the UNI
Bridge, which is a collaborative project with unions "lending" a
Webmaster to help other unions launch their own websites.
