TURK KOOP-IS - The Turkish Cooperative and Bureau Workers Union just recently launched its website...in Turkish...Fast, clear and straightforward! Check it out!

SBSI-Portugal is the biggest Portuguese Union, representing more than 50.000 members of the Bank sector from Covilhã to Azores. Their goal is to help our members to face the increasingly globalised economy and defend their rights, which is why their website is quite special as visitors are immediately sucked into a very "international" setting with articles that touch many of today's global concerns. It doesn't put local members off, though, as a lot of the links lead to collective agreements, union benefits, online advice and more. It's easy to navigate even for people who don't speak Portuguese! Have a look!

Voice for Change (aimed at Canada TWU members) is worth a visit even for non-members, just to see how they effectively use technology to communicate and interact online through discussion forums, areas to post messages, opinion polls and more. All of this is backed with a great database of articles and news. Although the site's home page keeps track every day of the number of days TWU members have been without a contract (1559 on April 8th 2005) and how long a go their last wage increase was (1924), there's still a place to smile: Labour Laffs. Have a look!

SNEB, the finance workers' union is the first of Mozambique to launch a website. The site's aims are to unite and organise bank workers in the country. Visitors will find information such as members' rights, collective agreements, newsletters, photo galleries and an FAQ. Please check the site now and again for the English version which will soon be ready - at the moment it's in Portuguese.

UNI NLC Nepal: UNI's National Liaison Council of Nepal has been online for almost a year now. Find out about their amazing IT Centre (where 500 union members have been trained already, in IT and e-communications) as well as their English Language courses. With little means, the organisation acts quickly and in an efficient way to network members, organise new ones and help develop workers' skills.
Parts of the website are still under construction because the NLC's current hosting service is very limited in disk space. Please let us know if your union can provide hosting to them! Thanks!

UNILANG: UNI's Maltese affiliate GWU has set up its own international school of the English language. the target students are trade unionists from all over the world who wish to learn or improve their English language skills whilst enjoying a stay on the sunny Mediterranean Island. Have a look at their website www.unilang.info where you can find all the necessary details including prices and application form!

ZUFIAW,  the Zambia Union of Financial Institutions and Allied Workers just recently launched an online initiative: a website with a nice design and lots of information on how the union works and what it has achieved. There's room for interactivity and "join the union" online forms, but for a first step, we're impressed!

EMYTUN, The Euromed Youth Trade Union Network, is an initiative to establish a network for youth trade union structures and young workers in the Euromed region. The network runs a website as the main tool for communication, in assisting young workers prepare EU projects and providing relevant information on the Euro-Med Youth Programme and Euro-Med Youth activities. The site is in English, French, Italian and Arabic.

Justice for Colombia is a coalition of British trade unions and other organisations that support the Colombian people and trade union movement in their campaign for basic trade union and other human rights and their struggle for peace with social justice. The organisation was started in response to the appalling situation faced by trade unionists in Colombia – the most dangerous place in the world to be a member of a trade union. You'll find their projects, campaigns and latest news on their website, as well as how to get involved.

WorkWorries is a free website that helps deal with difficulties people face at work. The site's content includes 1200 links to materials and books, a discussion forum, a WorkWorries News feed (RSS or email)...etc, all covering issues such as difficult co-workers, bad bosses, employee rights, harrassment and discrimination, office politics and workplace psychology.

GURN (Global Union Research Network) is a brand new website which aims at strengthening information sharing, knowledge management and research capacity for unions. The website offers: bilateral and regional trade agreements, migration and corporate governance information. The project is supported by ACTRAV (the Bureau for Worker's Activities of the ILO) as well as international union organisations.

With Spring come new beginnings! 
The
first union website in Kyrgyzstan went online as well as the website of a joint initiative: the Nordic-Baltic trade union network - which is still in early stages and both worth encouraging. So, have a look and email us to tell us what you think!

CUPE (Canadian Union of Public Employees) wins it all! The union's website won the "Labour Website of the Year" (2003) competition run by Labourstart and we thought we'd give it a little extra push too, because it's really worth a visit. It's one of the few union website making the very most of the Internet, getting its visitors involved in a interactive and compelling way. From free email accounts for members to chats, to site personalisation - wow! Have a look!

PostSocialDialog.org, a website for the Social Dialogue Committee for the postal sector in Europe has just been launched. The site was developed to present the good practices and good ideas collected within the Post offices and the Trade Unions on several programs since 2000: training and skills development, social dialogue and enlargement, equal opportunities. The site is also meant to encourage and facilitate continuous exchanges between the social partners of the postal sector at a European level. It will therefore be a real working tool for the next programs of the European Social Dialogue Committee by providing visitors:
- Online questionnaires for a direct gathering of experiences on the topics selected for 2004,
- The presentation of the Social Dialogue Committee and its working groups and a calendar of the main meetings with the agendas and minutes,
- A database with more than 100 contacts in the European post offices and the trade unions, as well as their contact details and a glossary of social and postal vocabulary.

Dialogue on Globalization focuses on different topics and strands of the debate on globalization (such as the WTO and Development, Global Finance, the Social Dimension...etc). The site presents a variety of publications ranging from short briefing papers to in-depth-studies. More than 300 scripts can be downloaded for free! This project on Globalization is part of the international work of the FES - a German non-profit institution committed to the principles of social democracy and with offices, programs, and partners in more than 100 countries.

This E-learning course on gender and race equity in the IT classroom is really something! If you've never tried e-learning before, have a go at this! The class is for free, and all you need is a Flash plug-in (or try the text version) and a bit of time.
The site is meant to be a self-contained, highly interactive course for IT instructors on gender and race bias in the IT classrooms and how to avoid it. It's a good, quick and enjoyable introduction to the major issues in gender and race equity and how the play out in a technical classroom.

USDAW's National Respect Day & Freedom from Fear Campaign - The biggest day in Usdaw’s history is takes place 17 September 2003 when the union holds its first National Respect Day for Shopworkers as part of the Freedom From Fear campaign. 
"Violent attacks on shopworkers have increased by 75 per cent since 1999 (in the UK) (...) In 2002, 16,200 retail staff were assaulted, 48,600 were threatened and 70,000 were verbally abused. No-one should have to abandon their peace of mind when they go to work." - says Usdaw's Deputy General Secretary John Hannett.

An amazing collection of information on Violence at Work and how to fight it can be found on USDAW's website. From an Incident Report forms, Employers' Risk Assessment checklists, Guides in case of verbal abuse or assault, Petitions to be signed and Campaign material...the site has it all! 

UNISON's (UK, Public Sector) website is a site to be mentioned by all means. Their "At Work" and "Get Active" webpages are excellent. Not that many unions offer such complete information on those subjects online...a model to follow. A few words of encouragements and congratulations go to the Oxfordshire Health Branch, a part of UNISON, who have set up a website aimed at informing members and self-organised groups - good initiative!

SITET (we're now moving to Central Americas - the last winner being a Peruvian union) launched their new website at the end of May 2003. You can be sure to always find the latest trade union action in Costa Rica on this site! Easy navigation, lots of information for a union which has always innovated in their work – finding ways of reaching workers through all sorts of media.

SINESSS, the Nurses & Social Insurance Union of Peru (Sindicato Nacional de Enfermeras del Seguro Social de Salud) is the perfect example of a basic union website when the goal is to achieve quick and direct online presence and increase the union's visibility. The site has a news section, an area for contact information and getting to know SINESSS, as well as fact sheets about Peru. What is special about the site is that it offers union email accounts for its members.

ETYK (The Cyprus Union of Bank Employees), has recently launched an English version of its website - reaching out to an international network of unions...! Visitors will find all they need to know about the ETYK, like its history (step by step - from its foundation up till today) and the entire spectrum of its activities. The website is broken down to 12 sections, to facilitate navigation. It's also interactive, as it offers visitors online forms allowing them to report problems they are facing with regards to their working conditions etc. Have a look!

The Society of Energy Professionals in Canada has a very original design for its website - worth seeing at least once in your life! It's clean, simple, easy and surprising. The only compromise for that is the fact that you need Flash to view it...

The AFL-CIO's Solidarity Center just recently launched its new website. The Solidarity Center has programmes in over 20 countries or regions of the world and is engaged in global campaigns to promote workers' rights world-wide, advance women's equality, help give workers a voice in the global economy and fight to eliminate child labour.

The SAT (Sindicato Argentino de Televisión), a UNI affiliate, has an excellent and original design for its website! Just for the fun, you should go have a look. And then, more seriously, Spanish speakers can also admire the navigation & clear content...

LaborNET is a free resource dedicated to servicing the trade union movement in Australia. Its website is a portal, featuring unions equitably allowing them to post their news and campaigns online. Visitors can apply for union jobs or find other jobs, check the Health & Safety and Legal advice databases, get tips on how to set up a union website...etc. LaborNET is an exellent example of what a union portal should be like!

The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work has an amazing website. It is huge (but remains easy to navigate) and can be visited in 11 languages. There are some very interesting publications on work related stress, for example, and some excellent factsheets on bullying at work, violence at work, an inventory of socio-economic costs of work accidents...A place to go when you're looking for complete and straight-forward information on Health and Safety @ Work!

The Namibian Food and Allied Workers Union (NAFAU) is the largest trade union in Namibia. It just recently launched its website, where visitors will find information on conditions of employment, a code of conduct, disciplinary and grievances procedures... Make sure you also check out their photo gallery, forum and guest book!

UNI-Americas Rio Events: Two big conferences will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this August: The first UNI-Americas Regional Conference (21-23) and the first UNI Finance World Conference (25-27). Side meetings for the Americas Executive and Management, as well as Graphical, Youth and Women events are featured on this website too. Follow everything live here!

Make Trade Fair is definitely a winner! The website is technically speaking "cutting edge" and visitors can navigate comfortably  in an esthetically appealing environment. This Oxfam site is an introduction to the current injustices of global trade rules, an invitation to all visitors to actively participate in innovative actions, a resource of information ranging from case study material from Mexico to Bangladesh...Make sure you check out the "real lives" area, it's especially worth it!

The ILO Sectoral Activities Programme announced the launch of a new portal website this month. The site, named "the One Stop Window", provides visitors access to all available information for 22 economic and social sectors from sources within the ILO and from a large number of other sources in the sector concerned around the world. The expanded information is available initially in English and will be available in French and Spanish at a later date.

The Directors' Guild of America simply has an excellent website. The articles' presentation, the navigation and the content are of high quality. It even has a multimedia area where visitors can download transcripts, sound and video clips as well as surf through an online photo gallery of special events. More than an information resource about the Guild, more than a news-driven site, it's a place on the web you definitely feel like going back to.

UNI-Americas: A brand new website for the UNI-Americas region is being launched this month (May 2002). Visitors will now appreciate the possibility to navigate the site in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French. 90 % of the site is now dynamic and is updated by the Americas staff where ever they are. The main feature of the site is the News section which is constantly being fed. Visitors will also find information on the Americas Sectors, Countries, Events and Issues.

ACV-CSC is Belgium's largest union organisation with over 1.6 million members. Its website is in 4 languages, including English! You'll find information about the country itself, unions, social dialogue etc. The Dutch and French versions are more complete with news, campaigns and a special site for young members (which is really worth a visit). The look and navigation is really good too!

"Women are half the world's people who do two-thirds of the world's work. They earn a tenth of the world's income and own a hundredth of the world's property"...WomenAid International website is our recommendation of the week. The site is clear, straight-forward and provides an excellent resource of information on women’s issues: from trafficking of women to human rights, women on the net etc...you’ll find it all. Check it out!

The TUC's Learning website is excellent. It is so complete, it's hard to find anything to criticize about it! It provides information about courses (most of them are free), a forum for online debates, as well as great presentations on subjects such as e-Learning, Basic and Key Skills, Equality and Diversity...etc. You can also fill in a learning quiz online!

Travail.qc.ca is the website for French-speaking web-surfers who would like to find information about the world of Work (with a union-friendly approach). The site is run by a very professional independent organisation in Quebec. You would like to know what's happening for workers around the world? Check their news. You're looking for a company/union website? This is also the place to go...as long as you speak French!

E-TradeUnions.org is an international resource for union web workers wanting to improve their use of websites and the Internet. This site is supported by an international network of volunteers from the trade union movement, and is currently in 4 languages (English, French, Spanish and German - Russian will be ready for Spring 2002). It already contains a large number of answers to questions commonly asked by union web workers. This site is a must for all union staff doing work for their website! Have a look and/or join the network!

The US Library of Congress links page provides authoritative, in-depth information about countries, including members of government, embassies, etc. It's also useful to find out what the countries Internet search engines are, so check it out!

Prospect is a new union for 104,000 professional and managerial staff in the UK. It  was launched on November 1, 2001. It combines the expertise of the Institution of Professionals, Managers and Specialists (IPMS) with UNI-affiliate the Engineers’ and Managers’ Association (EMA). The site contains news and forms to join the union. Members will get a fully functional web site soon.

FUPT-CFDT, a French union, recently launched its website and it's really worth the visit if you understand a minimum of the language! The site covers every topic you could imagine looking for, and technically speaking it is really advanced. It's a very good database of information that is easy to navigate. One could only regret the little interactivity, although any visitor is welcome to add their own website address to the site. 

FLY SAFER NOW! is a new website the SEIU has recently set up to highlight the need for improved training, working conditions, and a union voice on the job to improve airport security. The site is easy & straight-foward, has quality content and is a very good example of a union site that was set up "on the spot" to respond to current events.

A UK trade unionist (P Lewis) used some free space on the internet to set up a site for the UNISON union members. This is an example of a useful website of almost only links for people interested in: UNISON and Labour,  the UK government and parliament, the Green party and - why not? - football & rugby!

Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) just recently had its site re-designed to better focus on the needs of its visitors. The members-only area allows members to download important membership documents, as well as change their address and get up to date notices online. The site has an industry events calendar, a database-driven production resources list (links), as well as a mailing list. The DGC's well-achieved goal in re-building the site is that it is not only focused on the DGC but it is also a resource for excellent information on the film, television and new media industries.

GlobalWorkplace.org was recently launched by War on Want. It aims aims to promote awareness of globalisation among trade unionists in the UK. The site is part of an on-going programme of work to encourage grassroots trade union activity on international issues. Not only the content of the site is great but the design is EXCELLENT!

CWU, UK (Communication Workers' Union) launched its new website during their conference in June this year. The site has it all! It's a very good example of a union site where members and non-members can find everything they are looking for. It is clear, straight-forward and well designed. Check it out & tell the Webmaster what you think!

Saferinternet.org is a new website that has been established by the European Commission. It aims at promoting safer use of the Internet.You'll find the latest news on legislation, funding and awareness activities as well as a discussion section, a statistics section an email-alert facility and a breakdown of projects relating to the Internet by country.

Justice for Janitors celebrates June 15, Justice for Janitors Day, when attention is focusd on the low-paid, often immigrant workers who clean the buildings in which we often live or work. You can join in the action by looking at the website and pledging your support by fasting on this day. J for J day was initiated by UNI's North American affiliate, SEIU (Service Employees International Union) and is now supported by UNI affiliates worldwide in the Property Services sector.

Banking, Insurance and General Workers Union in Trinidad and Tobago is a website which is strong on content: people can find information such as labour statistics, laws and news on Trinidad and Tobago. It also links up to other Caribbean unions on the web. We were particularly interested in the excellent questions on the FAQ page. Check it out!

FILCAMS-CGIL (Italian) union's website, and the Dutch Women's Salary site (FNV) won the award this time. The FILCAMS site is not only excellent itself, but it also leads to a union site for Mac Donald's employees in Italy that is really worth a look. The 10th of May, is the official launch of a site in the Netherlands that will allow women to compare salaries online of 45 different professions. A "grande première!"

ICEM: A new-style website was launched today by the 20-million-strong International Federation of Chemical, Energy, Mine and General Workers' Unions

Eight SEIU Locals in the Chicago and Illinois region have linked up together and re-designed their new, joint website which was launched recently...check it out!

Unison (UK) & NUS have launched the 1st website for working students. Its aim is to equip them against potential exploitation by employers

NSWTF, The New South Wales Teachers' Federation has itself an excellent website, easy to navigate and  constantly updated with the latest news.

Hiroshima events: A website has been launched for the UNI-Asia-Pacific sector conferences happening in Hiroshima.

Russian Website: The UNI-Europa desk in Moscow developed a website in Russian and English. All news items (UNI net.news, flashes and press releases) are translated here, as well as Russia & CIS related news.
