UNI Commerce and Corporate Social Responsibility

With the increasing focus on globalisation the attention on its consequences is also intensified. Today calls for even more co-responsibility from all parties. Not least the younger generations view with increasing concern the society they are to take over.

UNI Commerce takes on its share of the responsibility to ensure a sustainable development for the coming generations.

The Corporate Social Responsibility must be made visible to all involved partners and be a natural part of today’s concept of our society. This must result in an All-inclusive report for the company, dealing with economic, social and environmental aspects.

UNI Commerce will work actively for agreements being negotiated on Codes of Conduct.

The member organisations are encouraged to make agreements with the individual enterprise and to negotiate agreements in national collective agreements.

UNI Commerce must use the Social Dialogue, both in ILO and EU, to bring about a change of attitude with employers and employees so as to create a common understanding of the need for a sustainable development.

The trade unions must at all levels, nationally and internationally, reach out and mediate.

We must play our part in developing new working methods that altogether bring about a healthy and safe working environment.

We must show that we are an equal partner willing to assume our share of responsibility for the development.

The unions must also involve other parts of society. It is important to reach out for alliance partners and establish new and untraditional alliances in our efforts to establish a common understanding. This could be by influencing the public authorities, collaborating with socially aware companies, contacts with consumer groupings and other NGO’s, not least youth organisations.

It is important that our own members in the companies are aware of the strategy and take an active part in it.

UNI Commerce believes that the Code of Conduct ought to be negotiated through a Social Dialogue. But we cannot reject the need for legislation in this field. It can play its part in ensuring minimum standards and motivate further agreements. The legislation can be drawn up nationally or be agreed on internationally, e.g. EU and OECD.

UNI Commerce will work together with all relevant institutions to ensure transparent, value-based standards.

There is a need for creating a social chapter in the increasing globalisation!
