Full stadiums and empty stores in Germany - longer opening hours during football championships did not attract customers

- Football fans come to see football - not to shop. Margret Mönig-Raane, vice president of German UNI-affiliate ver.di draws a clear conclusion from the experiences of longer opening hours during this summer's world championships.

These are not only words. The trade union leader is supported by a picture gallery on the ver.di website, with full sports arenas, and empty stores.

- The retail trade employees, who would very much have liked to experience this football celebration live were standing still with their legs numb waiting in vain for customers, Margret Mönig-Raane says.
