United States: Amazon closes customer service centre after staff joined trade union Leading web trader Amazon.com cuts its work force by 15 per cent. It is hardly a coincidence that a large part of the cuts are in work-places where trade unions have been organising. Thus, a customer service centre in Seattle, Washington where the Washington Alliance of Technology Workers has established a strong foothold, will be closed. The unions, which include Uni Commerce
affiliate UFCW, say that Amazon workers suffer from low wages and heavy
workloads. And the stock options are now worthless, they say. |
