UNI Commerce follows up on employment commitments:
Carrefour sells Korean operations to textile retailer E.Land

French retail multinational Carrefour has today agreed to sell its Korean hypermarket chain to textile retailer E.Land. According to media reports, the Seoul-based company was chosen as agreed to employment guarantees, which rival Lotte was unwilling to do.

When negotiations about a sale were started, UNI Commerce approached Carrefour, underlining that a possible sale to Wal-Mart would not be in compliance with the global agreement with the French retail multinational. During the negotiations, UNI Commerce requested and received assurances from Carrefour that the jobs of its Korean workers be protected in any take-over deal.

UNI Commerce is now following up on the issue with its affiliate in Korea, as well as with Carrefour.
