Lidl blocked emergency
exits, fined by British court
German hard discounter Lidl has been fined 3,000 GBP (4,350 Euro) for breaking against the British Health and Safety at Work Act. According to a local internet news channel, the West Berkshire Magistrates Court fined Lidl for obstructing emergency exits on two separate occasions during the same week. Failure and lack of systems and checks was, according to the court, the reason for this happening. Lidl, which is a frontrunner when it comes to 'wal-martization' of employment conditions in European retailing has never been able to establish itself as a big player on the British market. Consumers prefer Tesco and other serious retailers, who can deliver quality services at competitive prices while treating their employees correctly. |
