German trade unionists visited over 1,000 Lidl and Schlecker stores, informed about workers' rights

Lidl and Schlecker, two German hard discounters and sub-standard employers, were targeted by UNI Commerce affiliate ver.di on the International Women's Day, the 8th of May. Union members went up to store cashiers, gave them a little gift and a ver.di brochure. Altogether, over 1,000 stores were visited that day.

Only in eight of the 2,500 Lidl stores in Germany have workers been able to elect shop stewards. The management of this anti-union multinational intervenes heavy-handedly when any attempts to organise are found out.

The trade union activists were well received by the Lidl and Schlecker workers, who were also interested in the information that ver.di had produced for them.
