Uni Commerce intervenes: Louis Delhaize sacks Hungarian shop steward Through its Belgian affiliate SETCa, Uni Commerce has intervened with Louis Delhaize, the multinational retailer, on behalf of a shop steward in Hungary. After several years of a reasonable relationship with commerce trade union KASz, the Belgian chain has now started to complicate labour relations. The decision by a new country manager to fire the shop steward in contravention with labour law has caused uproar in Hungarian media and the union has contested it in court. In Brussels, Uni Commerce affiliate SETCa has intervened with the company, asking it to reinstate orderly labour relations in its Hungarian subsidiary. Both Uni Commerce and SETCa are prepared to take action if the conflict is not solved soon. |
