German social
partners are worried: Concentration in commerce will increase as the German discount law changes. Now, retailers can sell products also under purchase prices. Franziska Viethold, responsible for commerce in the ver.di executive board, says in Die Welt that price wars between the giants will escalate. Smaller traders, who employ the large numbers of people, will have to watch from the sidelines. The traders' association HDE is worried about the bonus cards, which large chains are issuing. These will entice customers to concentrate their purchases, to the detriment of smaller enterprises. |
