Tengelmann signs collective agreement in the Czech Republic after UNI Commerce intervention with top management

Plus, the discount chain of Germany's retail multinational Tengelmann has concluded a collective agreement with UNI Commerce affiliate OSPO in the Czech Republic. This follows a prolonged campaigning by the union, which was highly critical of the company's local management.

In a letter three weeks ago, UNI Commerce drew the attention of Tengelmann's top management to the labour relations problems in the Czech Republic, questioning whether they were really aware of what was happening on the ground. Apparently this helped, as well as a local demonstration soon afterwards, as a collective agreement has now been signed.

At home in Germany, Tengelmann is known as a correct employer. As with many other large multinationals that are expanding fast, these principles have not always been translated into a similar approach in new markets. With Tengelmann and Plus, this was apparently the case in the Czech Republic, as well as in Spain, where they will hopefully be addressed with equal speed and efficiency.
