Wal-Mart's
Canadian workers continue to press for trade union representation - yet
another store asks for vote
UNI Commerce affiliate UFCW has once again filed an application to the Quebec Labour Relations Commission, for a union representation vote at a Wal-Mart store. This time, the workers of a store in Gatineau want the union to represent them and to conclude a collective agreement on their behalf. As always, the Bentonville-based multinational is strongly opposed to any organising moves. An application for a vote at Wal-Mart's tire and lube shop in connection with the Gatineau store has also been filed. "Wal-Mart will have to get used to this. Employees are firmly committed to improving their working and living conditions, and we are there to support them," Guy Chenier, president of UFCW Local 486 said to the Globe and Mail, a Canadian newspaper.
