Wal-Mart calls police to disperse Sunday School children trying to hand over letter to Lee H. Scott Wal-Mart is edgier than ever. A new low in how the company treats its communities came yesterday, when the company called local police to disperse a group of a dozen children, who wanted to hand over a letter protesting against Wal-Mart's use of sweatshop labour. The incident in Framingham, Massachusetts raises new questions about the world's largest retailer's corporate culture. According to www.boston.com , the website of The Boston Globe, the group of children consisted mainly of members of the Boston Workmen's Circle fifth-grade Jewish Sunday school class, with their parents and older and younger children. They had been learning about sweatshops and unions, and their part in the history of Jewish people in the United States. The store manager refused to receive the children's letter, and threatened to call the police if they don't leave. And moments later, a police car arrived, and the children were told to leave. At least here, the Bentonville multinational will not get any new customers.
