Two European Commissioners will address Uni-Europa Commerce and EuroCommerce in Lisbon on 14 April Two members of the European Commission will be among the speakers at a Conference on Employment in Lisbon on 14 April. The meeting is arranged by Uni-Europa Commerce and EuroCommerce, as part of their European social dialogue. The 120 participants from all parts of Europe will seek answers to the social challenges of the fast structural and technological change in retail and wholesale trade. The issues of this one day event range from protecting inner cities and rural shops to helping commercial workers cope with new e-commerce applications. The European Commissioner for social affairs, Ms Anna Diamantopoulou will talk about employment and labour relations policies and the role of the European social dialogue. Mr Erkki Liikanen, responsible for enterprise policy and technology will talk about the changing role of commerce. The large enterprises, which are leading the way in the process of change, will be represented by Dr Wolf-Dietrich Loose of Metro AG and Mr Bernard Hughes of Tesco. Union speakers at the Conference include Hubert Gartz, Germany, president of Uni-Europa Commerce as well as the two vice presidents Jörgen Hoppe, Denmark, and Antonia Francheschini, Italy. The meeting will be addressed also by steering committee members Jürgen Glaubitz and Ninel Jansson as well as Willem Noordman of the Netherlands and Francisco Dias da Silva, representing the host country. Jan Furstenborg will present the Uni-Europa Commerce approach to the social dialogue. |
