Kantipur Television (KTV) workers have recently formed KTV Employees Union (KTVEU), the first trade union in Nepal’s private television network. Shortly after registration, KTVEU was officially recognized by the Government of Nepal’s Labour Office in Katmandu.

After receiving trade union certification, the president of KTVEU—Mr. Dipak Bhattarai—spoke with union members about safeguarding workers’ rights and contributing to the progress of the company.

KTV, which employs more than 300 workers, is the latest corporate diversification of the Kantipur Media Group. It is planned as a large private sector station and is licensed to operate as a terrestrial, national television broadcaster.

Union Development and Organising Center (UNIDOC) Nepal and UNI Asia & Pacific--together with its affiliate NTVEA-- are providing support to KTVEU.
