Jennings, UNI General Secretary has sent the following message to all UNI affiliates in Nepal. Congratulating them for their successful campaign to return Nepal on the road to democracy. To all affiliates in Nepal Nyon, 26 April 2006 Dear Colleagues, UNI welcomes the news that the House of Representatives will be reinstated. This is an important first step towards restoring democracy. We send our warmest congratulations to all affiliates, their members and families that have campaigned and protested in massive numbers for Nepal to return to the democratic path. We are delighted that all those members arrested have now been released. We mourn those that lost their lives in this heroic struggle for democracy, peace and social justice. They shall never be forgotten. It is vital that in rebuilding democracy that trade unions in Nepal have a seat at the table, that core labour standards are respected and that the nation follows a new path of rising living standards. Our affiliates around the world have followed your action with respect and admiration and send you a message of solidarity in your continuing struggle for a democratic Nepal. In solidarity Philip J.
