In Depth back to UNI In Depth home page 10/01/2007 KPN "virtual" workers leap naked on to KPN Building in SecondLIfe virtual strike action! Abvakabo, UNI's Dutch affiliate, has had a strike on Second Life with the workers of KPN Callcentres. This is to support the real strikes they have been taking to show KPN their serious demands to start negotiations for a decent collective agreement. (See our previous story at; http://www.uniglobalunion.org/unitelecom.nsf/0/120907_EN_90) Abvakabo organised the strike secretly, informed the workers, and sent the attached announcement to the press. It was successful, but it is easier to make it successful when you can be open about it. The union certainly got attention from the Dutch press, because at first they did not understand why people were virtually demonstrating naked (yes naked!) on the building of KPN Headquarters. Abvakabo says they have had a lot of support from these young workers in organising this action, in fact they have done many "wildcat virtual actions" to support their claims to get KPN to negotiate a collective agreement with them. ______________________ Union Network International http://www.union-network.org - contact@union-network.org
