Coffee break in Bascarsija

Dimitris Tsoukalas and Aristoteles Lakkas, vice president and education director   of Greek bank workers' trade union OTOE, contribute actively to the FIET project. Here, they have a coffee in the Bascarsija in Sarajevo with Mersiha Besirovic and Fuad Sahacic.

In the summer of 1998, together with Jan Furstenborg and Alex Rüdig, the Greek colleagues arrived by car from Belgrade. Their first sight of the damaged city was during a short stops at  the hills above the town centre, where one of the artillery positions had been.

Philip   Jennings, FIET's general secretary, visited Bosnia and Herzegovina in the summer of 1998. Here he is in the project office in Sarajevo, together with the FIET project representative in Zenica Liljana Smriko and Elmir Behlulovic, who used to be project representative for the Sarajevo Canton.

During a visit to Belgrade in 1998,  Alex Rüdig, Dimitris Tsoukalas and Jan Furstenborg held talks with Bronislaw Canak, president of Serbias independent trade union confederation Nezadvisnost.

Oslo's famous Frognerparken was on the programme when Hasan Kovac, president of the commerce trade union, and Suleiman Hrle, trade union confederation president, visited Oslo in 1998. Here they are together with Kari Nöst of HK Norway and FIET's project director Alex Rüdig.

Philip Jennings, FIET general secretary, was briefed by senior project representative Zelja Grubicic about the complicated trade union situation in Western Herzegovina.

Alex Rüdig guided Philip Jennings in Mostar. During the war, she spent two years here, as a member of the EU administration.

The Norwegian press showed much interest in the visit of Bosnian trade union leaders in the summer of 1998. During this FIET-arranged visit, the president of the trade union condfederation of BiH Suleiman Hrle held talks with his Norwegian colleague Yngve Hċgensen. This led, among other things, to the start of the Dom Sindikata renovation in Sarajevo. Here, Hrle and Bogdan Davidovic of the Commerce and Tourism Trade Union of the Serb Republic answer to journalists' questions.
