International project committee meets in Mostar, confirms support for continuation

The FIET International Project Committee met in Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 30 August, to review activities and to decide on the continued project work. The committee, which consists of senior representatives of the major donors, expressed its full satisfaction with project developments and made a commitment to continue with the work.

Any new project activities in the Western Balkans, in response to the difficult situation after the war in Kosovo and Yugoslavia, will come in addition to what is being done in Bosnia and Herzegovina, said Sture Arntzen of HK Norway, the committee's president.

The project committee also visited various sites in Mostar and the surrounding region. The town's old trade union house, the Dom Sindikata, is still in dire need of repairs, having been badly damaged by artillery during the war. The FIET project is now making efforts to find the necessary funds for this.

At the meeting, the work with women and with young people was singled out as a particularly important part of the project. This will now be stepped up, with also regionally based activities in different parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the agenda.

Instead of Claudio Treves of FILCAMs, who has taken over new responsibilities in   his union, Antonia Francheschini was confirmed as member of the project committee.

The committee also authorised the project director to appoint Natalija Djukic as the principal project representative for the Serb Republic, working at the FIET project office in Laktashi. She will report to project director Alex Rüdig. Mersiha Besirovic and Nerma Arnautovic are the two deputy project directors. Vesna Kliska is the other project representative for the Serb republic, stationed in Banja Luka.
