Tragic car
accident in Laktashi: Bogdan Davidovic is dead Bogdan
Davidovic, president of the Commerce and Tourism Trade Union of the
Republika Srpska of Bosnia and Herzegovina is dead. He was killed in a tragic car accident near
his home in Laktashi, on Sunday 28 May. Bogdan got to be only 47 years
old.
A key partner of the trade union solidarity project from its very beginning, Bogdan was co-president of the Commercial Workers' Coordinating Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He will be remembered as the first representative of the civil society of the Serb Republic to come to Sarajevo after the end of the three year tragedy of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to start working together for peace and reconciliation. In the Serb Republic and in Bosnia and Herzegovina as a whole, Bogdan Davidovic was a strong spokesman for the need to create employment and to build social justice. He was always on the move, negotiating with employers and authorities, assisting his members and building the trade unions which was so close to his heart. A strong leader, Bogdan was also a soft and caring person, who always tried to do something for the many workers who came to him for help and support. Bogdan participated in many FIET events, including the World Congress in Sydney in 1999 and the Euro-FIET Conference in Cardiff in 1998. In the Serb Republic, he was also the vice president of the trade union confederation. Bogdan is missed by his wife Jovanka, his two teenage children and a large number of friends and colleagues in the Serb Republic and in the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as abroad. More than three thousand people came to his funeral in the village where he was born. Jan Furstenborg |
