Nordic finance trade unions will renovate trade union house in Mostar

The Nordic finance trade unions have collected funds for a total renovation of the trade union house, the Dom Sindikata, in Mostar. The building was badly damaged by artillery during the war. The roof has to be completely rebuilt and major renovation is needed also in other parts of the building.

In Dom Sindikata, UNI/FIET has run a small trade union info café for the last two years. Also the local football club, Veles, has rented facilities in the house. A Veles team participated in the Norway Cup in 1998, invited and sponsored by HK Norway and the FIET project.

The renovation of Dom Sindikata is set to start already before the summer holidays. An agreement on the project has been made between the president of the trade union confederation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Suleiman Hrle, and Jan Furstenborg and Alex Rüdig on behalf of the Nordic unions. This will now be confirmed by the executive committee of the confederation and by the cantonal and municipal trade union structures in Mostar. The construction work will be done by Norwegian Peoples Aid NPA.

Meeting with Jan Furstenborg and Alex Rüdig in Sarajevo last week, Suleiman Hrle expressed his sincere gratitude, as the project once again takes on an important concrete task in helping the country to rebuild its trade union movement. Last year, the FIET project played a key role in facilitating the total renovation of the Dom Sindikata in Sarajevo.
