ICA Ahold and Dansk
Supermarked join forces in Nordic retailing Dutch retail giant Ahold continues to build up its presence in Scandinavia. The latest step is a joint venture between Ahold-controlled ICA Ahold and leading Danish retailer Dansk Supermarked. The 50-50 venture will operate Netto discount stores and Bilka hypermarkets in neighbouring Sweden and Norway. Scandinavian commerce structures have consolidated during the last years. Ahold took over a controlling half of Sweden's leading retailer ICA, also Norway's Hakon-gruppen was part of the setup. Soon afterwards, the cooperatives in Sweden, Denmark and Norway merged. German hard discount multinational Lidl is also on its way to the Nordic markets. |
