Changes at the top of Carrefour:
Daniel Bernard leaves, Luc Vandevelde takes over

Carrefour has announced important changes in its top management. Daniel Bernard, president and CEO of Carrefour has left the company. Luc Vandevelde, who used to be the CEO of Promodes, and later of Marks & Spencer, has taken over the presidency of the board. Jose Luis Duran, Carrefour's finance director, has been appointed CEO.

UNI Commerce is engaged in a constructive social dialogue with Carrefour, which is world's second largest retailer, after Wal-Mart. The company has a serious approach to corporate social responsibility, which is of course expected to continue also under the new leadership.

The global agreement with UNI and UNI Commerce on fundamental workers' rights and social dialogue has broken new ground and attracted much positive attention, including at the International Labour Organisation ILO. Carrefour's European Works Council, which has been established through an agreement with UNI-Europa Commerce, is a good example of how an information and consultation process that is taken seriously by management can serve the interests of both the company and its workers.

In most of the, thirty countries where Carrefour is present, UNI Commerce affiliates have a substantial position representing the workers.
