Carrefour buys rest of GB

Carrefour announced today that it buys the remaining stake in GB, Belgium's largest retail chain. It already owns 37.5 per cent of the company, having inherited it from Promodes when the companies merged last year. The price for GB is reported to be over 600 million U.S. Dollars.

GB has 518 supermarkets and hypermarkets in Belgium, with sales last year of 4 billion Euros/Dollars.

The deal will still have to be approved by the competition authorities.

With this take-over, the membership in the new European Works Council in Carrefour will have to be adjusted. Until now, the company has not agreed to include the GB workers.
