Carrefour expands strongly in 2001

French multinational Carrefour will continue its global expansion in 2001. Daniel Bernard, its CEO, has announced that the company will add another 50 hypermarkets and 150 supermarkets to its worldwide network.

Uni Commerce has recently negotiated a new European Works Council agreement with Carrefour, adapted to the situation created by last year's merger with Promodes. The first meeting of the new Council is scheduled for 27 - 28 November this year, in Geneva.

Carrefour is probably the most global of all commerce multinationals. Second in size only to Wal-Mart, the French company is present in all parts of the world. For Uni Commerce and its affiliates this means that a global social dialogue with Carrefour will have a high priority.
