Riot police used water cannons on
solidarity demonstration: Late last night, E.Land's New Core department store was cordoned off and picketing shop workers were isolated inside In the last hours yesterday, Korean riot police dispersed a solidarity demonstration outside E.Land's New Core Outlet shopping complex in central Seoul. Inside, dismissed shop workers are continuing their sit-in since Sunday morning. Like on previous days, trade union members and others had gathered last night in the pedestrian areas around E.Land's New Core Outlet shopping complex in downtown Seoul. With music and dancing, they were showing their support for the few hundred young women who continue their sit-in inside the store. Just before midnight, the riot police started to disperse the solidarity event, using water cannons, and surrounding small groups of demonstrators. The shopping area was effectively cordoned off. Apparently, nobody was hurt in this operation. UNI's Korea representative Jay Choi was later allowed by the police to enter the store and visit the striking workers, who continue to hold out.
