Argentina:
Code of conduct stops supermarkets from selling below cost

A code of conduct stops supermarkets in Argentina from selling below purchasing costs. Sponsored by the government, the code is intended to protect small and medium retailers. In addition to commerce itself, producers and industry associations are signatories to the code. Its completion was delayed by Carrefour, which has only now agreed to sign. Wal-Mart has still not agreed to the code.

Multinationals such as Carrefour and Wal-Mart have expanded fast in Argentina and are now in a dominant position.
