Otto joins WorldWide Retail Exchange:
World's largest mail order company sets its sight on e-commerce expansion

German Otto-Group is the largest mail order company in the world. It will now increasingly focus on e-commerce. In ten years, twenty per cent of Otto's turnover will come from Internet trade, say the company pèresident Michael Otto in an interview for German newspaper Die Welt. He believes that as much as ten per cent of the total retail turnover can be in e-commerce by that time.

Only a few weeks ago, Otto launched its 'Supermarkt-Service' which will deliver food all over Germany. Now, the company announces yet another step in developing its e-commerce operations, that is by joining the WorldWide Retail Exchange. This is one of the large purchasing platforms on the Internet.Tesco, Safeway, Marks & Spencer and Auchan are some of the other large Europeans engaged in this company, where JCPenney and Kmart are among the American partners.

The Otto group is present in 23 countries. Further expansion abroad can be expected, particularly in the American market. Here, it operates under the names of Spiegel, Eddie Bauer, Newport News and the Ultimate Outlet.
