Price war also in
Argentina: Wal-Mart and Carrefour refuse good practices agreement Also in Argentina, commerce is facing the Wal-Mart threat. Most recently, the giant American retail multinational refused to join a government-brokered agreement on good pricing practices. The agreement between commerce enterprises and suppliers was designated to stop retail stores to sell below purchasing costs. The refusal of the two multinationals to join the good practices agreement is significant. Sixty per cent of mass consumption in Argentina goes through the supermarket and hypermarket trade. Carrefour alone controls 25 per cent of the whole retail sector. Uni Commerce will discuss the global expansion of leading commerce multinationals such as Wal-Mart and Carrefour at a meeting in Geneva, Switzerland on 20 - 22 September. Also the Argentinean commerce trade union FAECYS will be represented at this meeting.
