Major
success for ver.di commerce: Wal-Mart recognises and will apply the German collective agreements for commerce. This is a major success for UNI Commerce affiliate ver.di, which has been campaigning to support Wal-Mart's German workers. Only a few weeks ago, the company refused recognition, but has now turned around after ver.di commerce threatened with strike action. In a message today to Wal-Mart's workers in Germany, management declares that it will fully apply the agreements during their whole period of validity, both for organised and unorganised workers. In the message which are posted on all Wal-Mart bulletin boards, direct reference was made to ver.di's plans to take industrial action if the collective agreements are not recognised. Ulrich Dalibor, head of ver.di commerce and member of the UNI-Europa Commerce steering group, welcomed the announcement as an important result of the big efforts made by the Wal-Mart workers and their trade union. |
