Wal-Mart established its own e-business exchange, together with Chevron

World's largest retailer Wal-Mart has established its own e-business exchange, together with Chevron and software producer Oracle. It is called RetailersMarketXchange.com and aims at serving the convenience store market. Wal-Mart participates in this company through a subsidiary, McAllen Co.

Poor employer

In the United States, Wal-Mart is known as a poor employer. It goes to great lengths in opposing the unionization of its staff. Lately, the United Food and Commercial Workers Union UFCW has established the first trade union footholds in the Wal-Mart stores in the United States. In Germany, where the Wal-Mart workers are well organised, labour relations are turning sour and the company made a much larger than expected loss last year.
